The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) and Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) are jointly developing the German-Israeli Virtual Campus (GIVCA), a platform for the strategic implementation of joint digital teaching initiatives and joint research projects. The aim is to develop scenarios for digital cooperation in teaching in international higher education and to increase awareness for the strategic potential of online teaching as part of the internationalization of universities as a whole.
Since 2018, courses, seminars, and colloquia as well as lectures as joint online formats of FUB and the HUJI have been designed and implemented into the regular programs offered by the institutions. Innovative online didactic concepts link the fields of internationalization and digitalization; the participating universities are able to expand their existing courses, use complementary expertise, and promote intercultural and international competences of a large number of their students through transnational digital teaching. The collaborations are expected to have an impact on joint research projects in the medium-term.
